Rachel Mayfield began her singing and writing career in the 1990 ’s, fronting indie/rock band Delicious Monster. The band released five EP’s and one album to critical acclaim in the alternative music press, and made 'Single of the Week' in both NME and Melody Maker. They were named ‘Best Band in the World’ by Caitlin Moran of The Times newspaper, and voted favourites of Suede and the Boo Radleys, going on to tour extensively with these and other alternative rock bands of the era, including Dodgy, The Cranberries and Belly.

They had two top ten indie hits after being championed by John Peel and Mark Radcliffe of BBC Radio One, and featured regularly on MTV. The band then suddenly split.

After the split Rachel travelled to Amsterdam to work with director of the Paradiso and agent Ben Kamsma, appearing with Sheryl Crow and touring acoustically whilst writing new solo material. With these songs Rachel returned to England and collaborated with musicians from the Jazz-Swing scene in London. The eventual result of this era was the release of these tracks on the ‘Freedom Is Sexy?’ CD (released in 2000) on the Pure Savage label.

In 1999 Rachel worked on the sound track to the film ‘Black Milk' with the front man of Gallon Drunk and Bad Seeds' keyboardist, James Johnston, available on an album of the same name. More tracks were released in 2003 on the Gallon Drunk album ‘Bear Me Away’

In 2004 Rachel became founder member of 'Magik for No reason' an alternative music and arts collective based in London. For up to the minute news and live dates visit www.myspace.com/rachelmayfield.
